Watery Basement

It's been a while since my last post. Reason? The crazy rain. After 5 years of living in this house and not seeing an ounce of water in our basement (our neighbors say the same thing,) our basement has flooded twice this month. It wasn't too bad considering some of the really bad flooding I saw on the local news, but just a big pain in the butt. Our carpet was soaked, so that had to go. We hadn't replaced it yet when the 2nd storm hit and the basement flooded again. In between storms, though, we had a pump installed which was supposed to keep the basement dry. In fact, we thought we wouldn't see a storm like the first one ever again! We were wrong on both counts. So now we're just trying to figure out what to do before re-carpeting.

Here are some pictures so you can appreciate our suffering :)

This is the unfinished side where most of the water was- this was actually after we had wet-vacuumed it all up.

Here's the finished side after KCK pulled up the carpet. We thought the finished side was OK, until hubs pulled up a corner of the carpet and found that the padding underneath was sopping wet!

As you can imagine, our basement isn't that attractive to begin with. And now it's an atrocity. Fun stuff.
