The other day, we were at a friend's house. We'll call him Rick.
Rick: I go to B & B Academy!
Rick's mom: That's the name of his school. GMK, what's the name of your school?
GMK: uh..... It's called Pre.

Today we went on our first Easter egg hunt. It was a little cold out, and AJK was stuck in her stroller throughout, but I think GMK had fun. She didn't really understand at first. In her mind, the word "hunt" probably evokes scenes of hills, rivers, and woods from one of her preschool pseudo-songs, "We're going on a bear hunt." But today, it was just a field and the eggs were just sitting in the grass in plain sight. She was more enthusiastic about it after she realized that there was candy and stickers in the eggs. AJK just loved playing with the plastic eggs after GMK was done with what was inside.
Easter is another holiday, like Christmas, that we're trying to make sure our kids separate the worldly holiday from the actual Christian significance of it. I think it's a great thing to get kids excited about these holidays through festivities and silly celebrations. But we're also trying to make sure they know exactly why these days are so special. Christmas was a little easier because it's Jesus' Birthday and kids are so in tune with that concept. But Good Friday and Easter? Three year-olds can't exactly relate to the whole death and resurrection thing. This is the first year that there is a remote possibility of her understanding. We'll see how it goes.

This happens to be the year that "Easter Bunny" caught the kids' attention. They think the concept is totally wack. But Santa is perfectly sensible and normal. They're actually freaked out by the Easter Bunny.
yeah, we feel the same way. my SIL asked if we wanted E to participate in an Easter egg hunt, and i just said that i didn't want her to at this point. you're right...it's hard for 3 year olds to comprehend. we're working on that though.

We don't do the Easter Bunny. Honestly, I don't even get it.

yeah, ESK doesn't get the egg hunts and i'm almost positive she would be deathly afraid of the Easter Bunny.
i'm not sure about the Easter egg hunt either. we've decided against santa, but not sure. like you said, it's easier to talk about christmas with little ones, but it's a bit harder to do so and make it festive and significant with easter. do share any wisdom in this.
